The IWR association was founded in 2000 and membership is open to men as well as women. Its headquarters are in Strasbourg and it is registered with the Strasbourg district court.

Its aim is to fight for the basic right to equality between men and women in all spheres of social and family life and to combat all forms of fundamentalism and the various kinds of violence of which women are among the primary victims.
